Below we present a few of the mini-stories to give you a notion of the genre of the book.

Spiritual Affinity

Stalin watched "Othello". When the performance was over, the heads of the troupe were interested to know Stalin's opinion. He was silent for a long time, and then said: "This man, what's his name, Yago, is not bad as an organiser".

The Guard of Honour

Poet Alexander Prokofiev recalls: "When Maxim Gorky died, they called me to come to Moscow, straight to the Hall of Columns. I stood there in the guard of honour. Tears welled up in my eyes. I saw Fedin brushing away tears. Pogodin stood with his head bowed sadly. Suddenly Stalin appeared, and all of us ... started to applaud.

Star Games

Deep into the night, a call came through to the Council of People's Commissars. Stalin's voice said: "Comrade officer, we here are playing an interesting game. Comrade Voroshilov asserts that it is Mars over the Kremlin, and Comrade Molotov says it is Jupiter. We need to know who is right."

The officer on duty woke up everyone who had anything to do with stars and planets, and at last Academician Fesenkov, half-asleep and grumbling, went to the window and said: "It is not a planet, it is a star from Cassiopeia constellation."

The happy officer immediately called the Kremlin and reported: "Comrade Stalin, your assignment has been fulfilled, it is a star from Cassiopeia constellation over the Kremlin."

Stalin's answer was: "What does it matter? We play quite a different game now."

A Monument in Telavi

A monument to Stalin stood on a high hill in Telavi, Georgia. Every month a dignified old man covered it with a fresh layer of white oil paint. He continued to do it after the 20th Congress as well. Finally, the numerous layers of paint made the figure shapeless and totally unrecognisable; it was resembling a snowman in its stark simplicity.
